The job behind the photograph.
New work is layout and discipline: plates snapped to the print, studs on layout so drywall and mechanicals land where they are meant to, walls raised plumb and braced, trusses set to spacing and tied down properly. It is quick when it is right and expensive forever when it is not.
Alteration work is the harder half. Taking a wall out means knowing what is above it, sizing the beam that replaces it, getting posts down to something that can carry them, and shoring the load temporarily while the swap happens. Openings for wider doors, a window where there was none, or a raised ceiling are all the same problem at different scales.
The repair end of it is what 41 years is really for: sagging floors, cut joists somebody notched for a pipe in 1978, rot at a sill plate, a rafter that has been carrying a roof load it was never sized for. Diagnosis first, then a fix that addresses why it happened.
